The man declares himself guilty of trying to assassinate judge Kavanaugh
Tuesday, Mr. Roske, 29, from Simo Valley, California, declared himself guilty in the United States district court in Greenbelt, MD, on charges of trying to assassinate a justice of the Supreme Court. He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison for his sentence on October 3, said his lawyer.
“Nicholas Roske appeared in court today and accepted full responsibility for his conduct by declaring himself guilty,” said the lawyer, Andrew Szekely, in a note. “The responsibility of Mr. Roske began on June 8, 2022, when, in the grip of a mental health crisis, he called 911, he told the police where he was and what he was doing and asked for help. After his call, Mr. Roske collaborated with the authorities to make sure he was taken safely.”
Tuesday in a statement, the attorney general Pam Bondi said he accepted the reason for guilt.
“This attempt calculated on the life of a Justice of the United States Supreme Court was an atrocious attack on the Court itself,” he said. “Anyone who thinks they can use violence or intimidation to influence our courts will be accepted with all the strength of the law and face life in prison.”
In judicial documents, public ministries said that, in the spring of 2022, Roske developed a plan to assassinate the judges of the Supreme Court “one or more. He searched their home addresses on the internet and looked for ways to break and enter houses and ways to kill people, public ministries said.
