Just like in 1999, the report recommended an increase in access to sterile injection equipment, expanding the opiate replacement programs and introducing a “take home” program for Naloxone, which reverses the effects of an opioid after an overdose.
He also recommended to change the legislation that limits the number of injection rooms supervised from a medical point of view to the state to that of Kings Cross, expanding the drug courts in regional areas and strengthening the diversion programs for young people’s transgressors.
Social media campaigns and an increase in investments in public and social housing have been suggested as ways to deviate young people from the use of drugs. The emphasis was placed on the first drug intervention programs for children before they reach five years.

Could medicinal cannabis consumers be legally authorized to drive?
The report suggested to introduce a medical defense for anyone who drives during the use of cannabis prescribed from a medical point of view, which would also allow the police to consider this defense during the stops along the way.

In the new South Wales, it is currently illegal to drive when taking cannabis drugs with THC, the psychoactive part of the cannabis plant. Last month, Medicine cannabis consumers in Victoria were authorized to drive.
Legalizes the deputy of the Cannabis party Jeremy Buckingham welcomed the recommendation as “eminently sensitive” although “in some way late”.
“The laws on driving under the flu remain … Nobody should be behind the wheel in any way,” he added, adding that those with medical prescriptions are not “not compromised”.
The state government was asked to provide an answer to the report within six months.
