McDonald and Herd Island and some of its inhabitants – a tariff threat to the United States.
But according to the President of the United States Donald Trump, the penguins and the seals of the Heard and McDonald islands are worthy of a 10 %rate.
As part of the liberation day of Trump, Heard and McDonald Islands – an Australian external territory without recorded exports – have been included in its list of tax hits for imports.
They were not the only Australian external territories that attracted the President’s attention. Both the Cocos and the Christmas islands, which sit in the Indian Ocean off the Costa Wa, were slapped with a 10 %rate.

Australian officials, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, were surprised by a 29 % rate on the island of Norfolk whose 2200 residents are recorded to vote in the law.
The island of Norfolk officially recorded $ 411,000 in exports of leather shoes in 2023.
“I am not entirely sure that the island of Norfolk, compared to it, is a commercial competitor with the Giant Economy of the United States, but this shows and exemplifies the fact that nowhere on Earth is exempt from this,” said Albanese.
