The victims of Melissa Caddick regulate the class action for $ 3.5 million

The victims of Sydney Conwoman Melissa Caddick reached a 3.5 million dollar agreement in a class action to recover part of their money lost by a group of auditors.

The Mackay Chapman law firm intended the cause of the Federal Court in September 2023 against a group of auditors on behalf of the victims of Caddick.

Most of the victims invested with Caddick, an autonomous financial consultant who stole $ 23 million from customers, through their self -managed superanuation funds (SMSFS). These funds had to be controlled every year.

“In the eight years between 2012 and 2020, at least five auditors were committed to conducting the mandatory annual audit of SMSF,” said the company in a declaration in which the cause was presented.

“The auditors provided all the audit relationships that, in fact, gave smsf a clean health invoice.”

The cause, which has now been resolved without admissions regarding responsibility, said that the auditors acted negligently and engaged in a misleading or deceptive conduct, among other claims.

Andrew Harding, SC, acting for the 32 members of the group in the class action, told the Court on Tuesday that the gross sum of transaction was $ 3.54 million. After the deductions, the members of the group received about half of that sum, or $ 1.77 million.

Markovic said he was “satisfied he could do orders”.
