“The difficult decision to remove the quail tree was taken on the clear advice that the advice would no longer be insured either for ownership damage or personal injury caused by the tree in the future. This fact linked the hands of the Council who required removal,” Parker said.
“Since then, the Council staff and I have continued to work closely with our insurer, at a mutual state level, to explore any possible alternative to keep the tree.
“I am pleased to announce that we have reached a position in which the advice was able to obtain partial insurance coverage for future damage caused by the tree.
“This positive change of circumstance means that our risk exposure has now been reduced to a level that no longer requires removal of the tree.”
The owner of the local house Rob Aird, an engineer who works under construction and real estate development, was one of the drivers of the community campaign.
“We would like to thank the advice and the insurer … to have come to a pragmatic and reasonable solution,” he said.
The cottonary of Quail Street took a bath in the afternoon sun on Thursday.
“We can’t wait to get all the fig trees of Quail Street on the significant register of trees … to ensure their long -term protection.”
Zoe Wilesmith, another resident, said: “The reversal of the Candwick’s city council on the decision to remove the tree is so warmly welcomed by the residents of Quail Street, Arden Street, Beach Street and beyond.
“This is a wonderful demonstration of the power of people: the working hours that the residents have started to save this tree and the expenses incurred by commissioning independent relationships and legal advice have all been justified by the welcome of the Council.”
It was a “enormous effort of community that started with a desperate reference to our neighbors to ask for help”, said Angela Mork, residing in Quail Street.
“And they help they did. What wonderful community we are part of. Here to save the street trees of the quail and many others in our district from destruction.”
