Ukrainian intelligence has information that there are about 155 Chinese citizens who fight for the Russian military against Ukraine, said President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky said that Russia was recruiting Chinese citizens through social media and that Chinese officials were aware of it.

He added that Ukraine was trying to evaluate if the recruits were receiving instructions from Beijing.

A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that China was previously verifying the situation with Ukraine, adding that its government had always requested its citizens to avoid areas of armed conflict and “especially to avoid participating in military operations of any party”.
