Walton Goggins knows that “The White Lotus” had to end this way

This interview includes spoiler for the season finale of “The White Lotus”.
It is unlikely that a man with a name like Rick Hatchett died in his bed.
He did not do it. In the Season 3 final of “The White Lotus”, played by Rick Walton GogginsHe killed Jim Hollinger (Scott Glenn), which Rick had believed for time to his father. (A posthumous turning point: in reality it was Rick’s father) then Rick was hit, in the back, by the delicate but ambitious security guard Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong). Most Tragic: Rick’s Sunshiny Girlfriend, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), was wounded in death in the crossfire. With his death in his arms, Rick fell into the hotel’s Lily pond. At that moment, he believes Goggins, Rick finds peace.
“For me, it was released by pain,” he said.
The morning after the ending, Goggins, a Famous actor character Currently also recited “The right precious stones” AND “Fall,” I discussed fate, love and why the story would have gone differently if he and Rick could somehow have some beers together. These are extracted modified by the conversation.
Have you heard that this ending was inevitable? Did Rick always have to die?
Yes, I believe it. I didn’t see it coming when I read the scripts. But after I read them and absorbed them, I realized that there were no other conclusions. He could not have ended in any other way.
In the previous episode, Jim was prevented from killing. In the end, he cannot resist. Why?
His life has been defined by this single event (the murder of his father of Jim, who turns out to be a false story that his mother told). He allowed this event to become his life story. Who is he without this villain in his life? Because without it, he should take responsibility for the decisions he made and not to have passed it. Being face to face with his tormenter allowed him to express this profound feeling-all what he needed at that moment was that this person witnessed his pain. This surprised Rick as much as anyone else. Reading him for the first time, I thought he would press the trigger. When he did not, I was in tears for this and I liked this revelation and this moment of peace.
But in episode 8, it was consumed again. This is the tragedy of all this, because in the depths of all our pain, there is always beauty around us. It is up to us to see it. I traveled a lot in my life. I did a lot of research. And the period of time I spent in the South -est Asia, I was looking for something very similar. I read this book of Thich Nhat Hanh“The heart of the teaching of the Buddha”, a simple and without frills interpretation of Buddhism. He explains the four noble truths: he accepts that life is suffering; Seeks the cause of that suffering; seek cessation; And then it engages your life in the noble path eight times. They are those four things. Rick took a couple of them. But he failed!
Do you think at a certain level Rick knew that Jim was his father?
No, absolutely not. Rick is someone involved in a story that was told to him when he was 10 years old. He is unable to see something outside of this narrative. I think it’s true for many of us. This is a warning. This is a canary in a coal mine for all of us who have experienced trauma in our life. We must not be defined by it. As my therapist says, you can write your story. You can. You can get off the karmic wheel.
I wish Rick had been able to go to therapy! He tried!
I too friend! Me too! I wish I would meet his path! We would have had a beer and would have talked (explanatory)!
Rick deserves Chelsea, that angel?
Do they deserve each other? Of course they do it. They are twin souls. Anyone (who disagrees), you are in a state of development arrested or you are not able to see the nuance in this story. Aimee Lou is a real treasure. I’ve been around for a long time. I had chemistry with many different people in many different genres. Immediately, the first time we met in Thailand, the chemistry was there. It was as if we were friends and souls at a certain level for a long time.
How was it interpreted Rick in that last shot, face up in the Lily pond?
The final image of Rick floating, which was a vision of peace and probably a recognition that the karmic cycle will continue. For me, it was released by pain.
Rick was in many ways a man of mystery. You decided yourself what is its basic story: how did your money done, how did it become as good with a gun?
All. Yes, everything. With everything I do, I spend hundreds of hours imagining the life of this person and the answers to those questions. Mike (White, the creator of “The White Lotus”) said: “I don’t know, but you will do it”. I found those things for myself.
Will you tell me what you found?
I keep it for me, unfortunately.
Do you think Thailand at all at Rick at all?
No, it’s not there to see Thailand. This is someone who has been all over the world. It is there for a very specific reason. All the others have their friends or their brothers or their parents, someone to talk to. Rick has Chelsea, but he is unable to open them until he does it. Suddenly when he arrives in Bangkok, he also has a friend. (Frank, played by Sam Rockwell.) His behavior changes immediately. Suddenly he is an active listener and an active participant in a conversation, laughing and having fun.
Were those scenes with Sam a relief?
It was such a relief to arrive at that point in history and to be in this space very different from that hotel. In that world, surrounded by those vacid people, it is an interloper. However, it would not speak with those people.
You also went to Thailand for a specific purpose: work. Did you have fun enjoying you?
Yes, there were times when I really liked them. I liked some of the excursions and the quality time with some people there. But apart from that, I was there to do a job. My job was to tell the story of Rick Hatchett. And it was relentless.
