Mourinho, who had already faced a ban on touchline on a previous dispute with Turkish rivals, is now sure to face investigations by the authorities for the attack.

The accident occurred at the end of a 2-1 victory for Galatasaray in the quarterfinals of the Turkish cup where three players were expelled during the clashes in additional time.

It is not the first time that Mourinho has resorted to such a dramatic physical outbreak. In a heated match of the 2011 Spanish Super Cup, the then manager of Real Madrid hit the deputy coach of Barcelona Tito Vilanova in the eyes that led to a subsequent ban.

The hostilities between Mourinho and Buruk had already been established, with the former director of Tottenham and Chelsea who meant a cause against Galatasaray in February after the club had accused him of making racist statements.

Speaking after a previous 0-0 draw in the Turkish derby, Mourinho said that the Galatasaray bench “skipped as monkeys”.

But after the feud continued on Thursday, Mourinho now faces the prospect of further sanctions, having already served a ban on four games after being accused of making racist statements.
