WestJet pilots ask judge to nix approval of temporary foreign workers in the cockpit
The union representing the Westjet pilots asks a judge to cancel the federal approval of temporary foreign workers in the piloting cabin.
In one question it is said that on Monday, the Pilota Air Line Association was submitted a petition to the Federal Court to declare a decision of the Government of the Temporary Work Permits of green lighting at Westjet Encore at the beginning of this month.
The deposit states that the airline requested about 60 permits for pilots from India and South Africa as part of the temporary program of foreign workers.
Tim Perry, who directs the Canadian wing of the union, says that it has not been consulted and that the move could erode the “safety margins” and underestimated wage earnings.
Westjet claims to have asked the government to evaluate if temporary foreign workers are needed, a necessary step before taking from abroad may take place. He says nobody has been brought to the board so far.
The temporary program of foreign workers, which allows non -permanent residents to work in Canada for limited periods, uses hundreds of thousands of people throughout the sector ranging from agriculture and constructions to hospitality and health care.
