When can Liverpool win the title of the 2024-25 Premier League?
We have heard all the accusations and whispers this season from rival fans, right?
“This Liverpool team is not actually so exceptional.” “The Premier League is a poor League this season.” “The Liverpool class of 2024-25 would not have won the title in another season.”
The loss of Sunday will be added only to those shouts. How right, though?
First, it must be said that the usual Rivals of Liverpool are not passing their best seasons.
The charging champions of Manchester City are on the right way to their worst campaign under Pep Guardiola, Manchester United is ready for their worst season in the history of the Premier League, Arsenal is nine points at the time of their points in this phase of last season, while Tottenham and Chelsea have suffered their struggles.
“The other teams have not taken a step forward this season and Liverpool has been coherent to the end,” said the former Manchester United Gary Neville captain in Sky Sports before the Fulham match.
“The rest of them went down well below their standards: Arsenal, obviously Manchester City, United, Tottenham.”
It was a good season for Liverpool to take a full step. And the slot men certainly did it.
Even if the Arsenal was on 71 points they had reached in this phase last season, when they were at the top of the table, Liverpool would still be two points in front of them.
“I don’t even think Liverpool has been exceptional this season, they were efficient,” the former Manchester City defender Micah Richards told Sky Sports.
“They were slower in the accumulation and more ruthless in front of the goal.”
The very connected invincibles of the Arsenal finished their winning campaign of the title on 90 points in 2004. The slot men need 18 points from seven games to beat it.
In 32 seasons of the Premier League, only 14 teams reached that sign and one of them – Manchester United in 1993-94 – did so in a season of 42 games.
Liverpool is also the only team to get over 90 points and not win the title – do it twice under Jurgen Klopp – which means that only 12 of the previous 31 winning teams of the League published in 90 points or more.
In the meantime, the average number of points for the team in second place after the 31st match of a season is 65.4 – slightly higher than the current 62 points of Arsenal – but at this stage there were teams in second place on much lower counts, including the 57 points of Arsenal in 2000-01.
“Liverpool wants to restore the aura they have had throughout the season and end up strong,” the former Manchester City Izzy midfielder told Sky Sports.
“However they end up winning it depends almost on them. They were fantastic.”
You can only beat what is in front of you and Liverpool has done this in formidable style – until Sunday, however.
