James captured Covid-19 for the first time in April 2022 and as his partner Emma explains to Helen PiddUntil months later, the severity of his infection became evident. He did not get up and walked and was hypersensitive to noise and light.
“We have a sheet of black plastic on all windows and doors to stop any light coming,” says Emma.
James now lives in darkness and pain with Emma and his parents provide support for intensive care. They hope that a expensive form of treatment will help him recover.
Five years after the first Covid-19 block, James is one of the 2 million people in the United Kingdom today who are believed to suffer from Long Covid. There are more than 200 symptoms associated with the condition and yet its cause remains unknown, without approved treatments.
