World Figure Skating Championships 2025: Lilah Fear & Lewis Gibson win the first Great Britain medal since 1984

Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson won the first medal of the Great Britain skating world championship in over 40 years with the bronze of the ice dance in Boston.
Not since 1984, when Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have won their fourth and last global title, they have British skaters standing on a world podium in any discipline.
But Fear, 25 and Gibson, 30 years old, finally ended that waiting on Saturday with a total score of 207.11 points, after finishing the fourth in the previous two world championships.
The American favorites Madison Chock and Evan Bates defended their title while Canada Piper Gilles and Paul Poerier took silver.
The Olympians Fear and Gibson are three times European medals and at the beginning of this season they claimed the first ever medal of Great Britain at the Grand Prix final.
In Boston, they had placed third party after the rhythmic dance on Friday, but while their free dance routine – soundtrack by a trio of beyonce successes – was judged the sixth best Saturday, their combined soundtrack was sufficient to make them get the greatest success of their careers to date.
The British companions Phebe Bekker and James Hernandez ranked 17th.
At the beginning of this month, Torvill said fear and Gibson “I brought ice dance in Great Britain to another level”.
The World Championships are a qualifying event for the winter Olympics next year in Milan-Cortina.
