Yorkshire: Jonny Bairstow to Captain White Rose in the County Championship

Bairstow, a veteran of 100 tests, will lead Yorkshire for the first time on April 4 in the Hampshire in their first game of Division One since 2022.

For the first time since 2018, Bairstow is not in the Indian Premier League and can pay full attention to the county match.

He did not play a test since March 2024 and his latest T20 International was at the T20 World Cup last summer.

The cricket player born in Bradford, who made 12 test centuries and was the winner of the World Cup in 20 and 50 over cricket, was winner of the championship with the White Rose in 2014 and 2015.

Now his task is to guide the front while the team tries to restore himself in the maximum flight.

“It is a great honor to become a captain of Yorkshire,” he said.

“It’s something like a boy you dream. It’s something you want to do, it doesn’t matter if they are the first years of your career or the last years of your career.

“I am asked to do it with the group of guys we have is a proud moment for me, for the family and I hope it is an exciting moment for the boys this year.”
